Im Oktober vorletzten Jahres ist Dr. Jim Gannon gestorben.
Er war einer der weltbekanntesten Tierärzte für Greyhounds und hat an 
"Care of the Racing & Retired Greyhound" und zuvor dem Original "Care
of the Racing Greyhound" federführend mitgearbeitet.
Durch die Erkenntnisse, die er und seine Kollegen in diesem Standardwerk
veröffentlicht haben konnte und kann einer Unzahl an Greyhounds auf der
ganzen Welt bei großen und kleineren Beschwerden geholfen werden.
In seinem Wissen wird er noch lange weiter leben und helfen.

Melbourne's Dr. Jim Gannon, considered the most knowledgeable greyhound
veterinarian in the world, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on Monday
4th October at his home in Doncaster East.

The news comes as a shock to the greyhound industry as Dr. Gannon, who
recently celebrated his 80th birthday, appeared to be in excellent health.

"Dr. Gannon was the Bradman of greyhound veterinary science, and greyhound
medicine didn't exist until he came along", said Greyhound Racing Victoria's CEO,
John Stephens.

"He ran a vet clinic in the Melbourne suburb of Kew during the 1960's, 70s and
80s that was immensely popular among greyhound folk. Most of Victoria's good
greyhound vets and good greyhound trainers learned their craft from Dr. Gannon
in those days."

"I saw Jim at a luncheon six days before he passed away and he looked as fit as
a fiddle. He had a strict fitness regime which included using equipment in a gym
he had at home, and he was on a healthy diet", Stephens added.

One of the co-authors of the leading Greyhound textbooks worldwide—"Care of
the Racing Greyhound" and its sequel, "Care of the Racing & Retired Greyhound"
—Dr. Gannon is the only veterinarian to have been inducted into Greyhound Racing
Victoria's [GRV] Hall Of Fame.

He has also been presented an Order of Australia Medal by Victorian Governor
John Landy and an Australian Sports Medal by Prime Minister John Howard and
was a key figure in the launch of Greyhound Adoption Program in Victoria.

Survivors include Dr. Gannon's wife of 54 years, Faith; their two daughters,
Michele and Kerry, and three grandchildren.

*Please note that a funeral will not be held for Dr. Gannon, as it was his wish
that he be privately cremated in the presence of his family only.
